About
I am the first black female Orthopaedic Consultant surgeon in the U.K. and the first woman in Europe to perform Mako robotic hip surgery. I specialise in treating conditions of the hip and knee and offer primary and revision surgery, robotic and minimally invasive surgery. I am an Examiner for medical school finals exams in the U.K. and Trinidad and Tobago, as well as educational supervisor for U.K. trainees. I am passionate about increasing diversity in surgery and am involved with many organisations that support this work. Outside of work I enjoy dancing, travel and fine dining.
What made you join IODA?
My passion for increasing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the speciality.
How have you approached DEI in your workplace?
By fostering compassion, communication and collaboration within the department as well of raising awareness of the issues.
How do you define inclusion?
Value of someone’s differences and allowing them to participate fully and have same opportunities to progress as others.
What is your proudest achievement?
Have many! Passing FRCS exam, Completing my first solo operation, being asked by my departmental colleague to perform knee replacement surgery on his mother, to name a few. 😀
