I'm a rising 4th year student at Brown's Alpert Medical School in the combined MD/Masters of Public Affairs (MPA) program. Before medical school I studied Science and Society as an undergraduate at Brown and then received my MSc in International Public Policy at University College London. I hope to have a future career in academic orthopaedics that combines clinical practice with research and advocacy work at the intersection of orthopaedics and health policy aimed at addressing disparities in surgical access and outcomes both domestically and abroad.

I am a first year medical student at the University of Miami where I am also concurrently pursuing a Master’s in Public Health degree. I am passionate about all things Orthopaedics and making it a more inclusive field for all those who are interested.

Dr. Mulcahey is a Board Certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and knee surgery and sports medicine. She is a New Hampshire native, who received her Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from Dartmouth College in 2000 and her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in 2006. She completed her orthopaedic residency at Brown University, followed by a fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma at the same institution. Dr. Mulcahey then went on to do a fellowship in sports medicine at San Diego Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine. While in fellowship, she assisted with team coverage of the San Diego Padres (MLB) and San Diego State University.

Dr. Mary Mulcahey joined the faculty in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Tulane in April 2017, as the Director of Tulane’s Women’s Sports Medicine Program. In that role, Dr. Mulcahey has been instrumental in the design, development, and leadership of a comprehensive approach to the care of active women. This cutting edge program combines resources and services of multiple disciplines including orthopaedic surgery, primary care sports medicine, physical therapy, nutrition, and sports psychology. Her areas of clinical expertise include shoulder injuries, rotator cuff tears, rotator cuff tendinitis, biceps tendinitis, shoulder instability, labral tears, knee injuries, ACL tears, meniscus tears, patellar instability, and tendon injuries (eg patellar tendon, achilles tendon, quad tendon). She takes care of both male and female patients. Dr. Mulcahey is the team physician for Tulane’s Women’s Indoor and Beach Volleyball teams, the Big Easy Rollergirls, New Orleans Women’s Rugby (the Halfmoons), the Hurricanes (women’s professional football team in New Orleans), as well as several local all girls’ high schools, including St. Mary’s Dominican, Academy of the Sacred Heart, Cabrini, Mt. Carmel Academy, Archbishop Chapelle, and St. Scholastica Academy.

I am very passionate about helping to promote and actively create diversity in the healthcare industry. I serve as an advisor for Greater Influence and their mission is to create more representation in healthcare. I have also created a few events that introduce high schoolers from diverse backgrounds to career pathways in healthcare. I currently serve on the ACHE of Western PA Diversity Committee.

My name is Abdoulie Njai, and I am currently taking time off between my third and fourth year of medical school to receive my MPH in Health Policy from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. After completing medical school, I plan to become an orthopedic surgeon. I have met amazing mentors who have encouraged me to combine my public health and surgery interests. They have strongly supported my desire to seek further education in health policy now so that I can be effective while building my practice. My long-term goals include serving on health professional committees devoted to reducing health disparities, collaborating with policymakers, being involved in public health research, and working to improve surgical care worldwide specifically in low-income countries.
